Met Costume Institute Gala Fashion

Gorgeous dresses alert! New York was host to the annual star-studded Costume Institute Gala last night, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Anna Wintour hosted the event, which was held in tribute to the late Alexander McQueen. Current design head at the label - and designer of Princess Catherine's stunning wedding dress - Sarah Burton, attended in white.

The Twilight cast was represented by Kristen Stewart in vampiric dark red Proenza Schouler, while Ashley Greene and Dakota Fanning wore embellished nude dresses. SJP looked gorgeous in McQueen, while Miranda Kerr channeled Carrie Bradshaw in a tutu dress.

The Cut reports that Beyonce found it hard to walk in her Pucci fishtail dress, especially up the stairs, but was accompanied by her man Jay-Z for necessary support. The pair were booed by the crowd, however, for not posing for photos for long enough. Eek!

Gisele looked red hot, Rihanna went very risque in a black lace dress that showed practically everything, while pregnant Kate Hudson and Jessica Alba both went for shimmering gowns to show off their baby bumps.

What a glam night!

Sporting the 'bright hue' trend is Brooklyn in this body fitted, almost second skin dress by Michael Kors. Love how she did not overdo the hair and accessories!

0503zoe-saldana-met-gala-calvin-klein_fa.jpg

zoe saldana

Looks like Zoe still misses her Avatar days.. Not really sure if the pretty Calvin Klein gown actually suits her frame and skin tone, but what disturbs me most is the make-up.. Or is it just a bad picture?

stella mccartney

Its really nice to see designers dress themselves up, and look so pretty.. Sure the outfit has a weird puff and the neckline is just too high, but the designer knows best and carries it off with all poise and elegance!

ANNA WINTOUR

The hostest with the mostest wore this Chanel Haute Couture gown with what looks like a lot of sequins.. Love the color merges and fading!

dianne argon

Another GLEE star wears red, this time in Michael Kors. The metallic cuff looks so glam and the hair just couldn't have been any better!

Ashley olsen

Wearing a vintage Dior gown, I'm not really sure if Ashley nailed her look too well.. The huge puffy sleeves just do not compliment her petite figure, nor do those awesome reptile midnite pumps really match the black of the gown..

leighton meester

The Louis Vuitton dress and also the entire get-up gets a big thumbs up from me! But judging by the fact that it makes her hips look a little too wide than usual, I would definitely steer away from it!

maggie gyllenhaal

Maggie looked superb in this sparkly midnight blue McQueen gown.

elizabeth banks

Another sparkly sequinned gown makes it to the red carpet, this time it is Elizabeth in Tommy Hilfiger.

lucy liu

Besides sequins, feathers seemed to be a really big trend too on the red carpet. Lucy looked swan-like in this Vionnet gown.

ashley greene

Ashley made the best dressed list in my mind in this pretty Donna Karan gown with sequined embroidery.

christina ricci

Definitely one of my favorite gowns for the night, Christina looked amazing in this Zac Posen outfit

gieselle bundchen

Another star to beckon the spotlight in brights was model Gisele, who looked fierce in fiery red. Her strapless McQueen gown had a slim bodice that showed off her envious figure, whilst the flowing fluted skirt added serious sex appeal. Finished off with a flowing mane and obligatory tan, she looked every inch the supermodel.

sarah burton

The pretty McQueen designer attended the even in white.

naomi campbell

This goes to show that McQueen can fail sometimes too.. Naomi looked a 'hot' mess in this outfit!

miranda kerr

Miranda looked cute and bubbly in this custom made Marchesa gown. Love the accessories too!
